At NW Therapy I also work using CBT, as I am clinically trained and recognise it as being effective in some situations.
CBT concentrates upon talking to change thinking and behaviour, and is often time limited. It has been favoured by NHS Therapeutic services because it can be time limited, and it’s directive approach to changing behaviour can be relatively easily clinically measured for effectiveness.
The focus is here and now, not past, to help you feel better as quickly as possible.
When working in this way at NW Therapy, negative thinking may be challenged so you can develop a more positive approach to situations and issues. It can help you break out of repetitive cycles of behaviour.
At NW Therapy when working in this way we may discuss strategies, and you may learn skills in session. You are likely to be given work to do in between sessions. This is to ensure that your learning is generalised into your everyday life, otherwise it may not be effective. So it is important to try to carry out any ‘homework’.
CBT can be helpful for depression, anxiety, stress, phobias, obsessions, eating disorders and managing long term conditions.
At NW Therapy I work in an integrative way, not solely CBT, tailoring my approach to you personally, working with many modalities according to your needs.
Call me at NW Therapy, on 07944897678, if you want to book a session.
Personal consultations, telephone, or face time sessions are available, if appropriate.
This snapshot is intended to inform and ease your concerns if you are considering coming to counselling. It is not a definitive explanation of a theoretical approach. If you are interested in theory, please research it yourself. The BACP website may be a good place to start.
